In Topps Heritage, you can always expect to find a number of manufactured “error” cards and even more variations. We call them “manufactured” error cards here because unlike some of baseball’s funniest cards that were true mistakes (as far as we know), these cards were produced as errors on purpose.

2023 Topps Heritage is no different—here are all of the error cards you can find along with the player name, card number, and error type.

#Player NameError Description
5Mike TroutNo position on front
7Adley RutschmanNo position on front
17Bryce HarperReversed image
18Julio RodríguezNo player name on front
364Juan SotoReversed image
19Nolan GormanNo team on front
20Shohei OhtaniNo player name on front
388Francisco ÁlvarezNo position on front
30Michael Harris IINo team on front
48Riley GreeneReversed image

Here is what each of the descriptions mean:

No position on front:

In the top right-hand side of regular base cards, the position is listed. For the “no position on front” errors, the position is missing. The The Trout would be the easiest to pick up on, because as we’ve stated before, all Angels cards are missing the “Los Angeles” city name by design (basically they don’t use the city name anywhere and most card designs don’t use the city names; but 1974 does). So, there isn’t any text on top of the Trout.

Reversed image:

The reversed image error is a classic, and is reinstated here in 2023 Heritage with the player’s base image literally being reversed/flipped. So, as you can see, Bryce Harper is a left-handed hitter yet the card shows him swinging from the right-side (not to mention the backwards writing on the jersey). The Riley Greene and Soto errors are a little more subtle, though still pretty obvious).

No player name on front:

On one hand, the no name on front error should usually be recognizable, but on the other, when there are only two in the set, and are of two players who don’t need an introduction, you might not notice! But, just another reminder that if you pull any superstar, you’re best off to check and double check that they aren’t valuable parallels.

No team on front:

Last, and just like the “no position” error and the “no player name” above, the “no team name on front” error is just like what it sounds. Perhaps the most obvious given that there is text missing from the top and bottom of the card, the missing team name just leaves the position and player name.
