Before Bowman “1st” prospects and the “true” rookie card conversation, there were Draft Pick cards, with stars like Frank Thomas, Chipper Jones, and Manny Ramirez all having at least one Draft Pick card be considered to be their best RC to collect.
Today we are focusing on Derek Jeter, who in addition to the standout 1993 Topps Draft Pick card – which is considered to be his best rookie – has a handful of others across various brands.
Which are truly the most valuable, and which should you have in your collection? Let’s look at 1993 Topps, 1993 Score, 1993 Select, and 1993 Pinnacle in both raw and graded forms.
Raw Derek Jeter Draft Pick Cards
If you polled collectors on which of Derek Jeter’s Draft Pick cards was the most valuable in terms of average sales amount over the last 365 days, I’d bet the vast majority would quickly say 1993 Topps.
So, it’s a bit of a surprise that it’s actually 1993 Pinnacle, card #457 “1st Round Draft Pick” that holds the top spot, selling for more than a $1 more than 1993 Topps at $10.39 and $9.22, respectively.
- Raw 1993 Pinnacle #457 $10.39
- Raw 1993 Topps #98 $9.22
- Raw 1993 Score #489 $7.60
- Raw 1993 Select #360 5.86
After the top two, you then have 1993 Score #489 at $7.60 and 1993 Select #360 at $5.86.
PSA 9 Derek Jeter Draft Pick Cards
When those same cards are graded as PSA 9s, that gap actually widens a bit, with Pinnacle selling on average over the last 365 days for $39.51 and Topps around $32. On the bottom, Select and Score switch places with Select PSA 9s selling for $24.78 and Scores for $22.14.
- PSA 10 1993 Pinnacle #457 $39.51
- PSA 10 1993 Topps #98 $31.89
- PSA 10 1993 Select #360 $24.78
- PSA 10 1993 Score #489 $22.14
PSA 10 Derek Jeter Draft Pick Cards
If you’re lucky enough to have one of your Derek Jeter Draft Pick cards grade at a PSA 10, Pinnacle is the one you want to be holding. With a relatively low population of 755, 1993 Pinnacle #457 PSA 10 has sold for $91 on average over the last 365 days. 1993 Topps on the other hand is down around $301, which isn’t bad considering the card has a much higher population at 3,729.
Select remains in the #3 position at $211 (pop 512) and Score at #4 with a $104 365-day value and a pop of 2,301.
